Dry Bag
Most airboats do not have dry storage & weather can be unpredictable in the Everglades. Although the boat ride is dry, you never know when an afternoon sun shower may roll through, especially during the Spring – Summer months. Waterproof phone cases are a great asset, but we recommend keeping all of your valuables safe from the south Florida elements with an Earth Pak Waterproof Dry Bag + Bonus Phone Case.
Sun Protection
Florida is known as the sunshine state, no matter the time of year. The UV index can vary but typically peaks at around 10 during the summer months. Even during the winter months, early – mid afternoon is capable of leaving you with a sunburn with extended time outdoors. The River of Grass offers little shade, so sun protection is a must! One of our favorites is a broad spectrum, mineral based, and dermatologist recommended Blue Lizard Sunscreen.
Portable Phone Charger
Cell service can be limited in the Everglades, and photos drain batteries fast. A portable Fast Charging Portable Battery Pack – USB & C helps keep your phone powered for navigation, memorable photos, and emergencies during long days outdoors.
Water Shoes
Water shoes are ideal for wet boat launches and wading through shallow Everglades waters. We recommend Quick Drying Water Hiking Shoes with good traction for comfort and stability while on your Everglades adventure.
Sunglasses
An airboat ride means sun glare reflecting off of calm open waters and the possibility of a dragonfly or blade of grass hitting you in the eye. Since airboats themselves do not have windshields, a great pair of sunglasses is like a protective windshield for your eyes. Some of our Captains’ favorite pair are the Native Eyewear Sunglasses offering 100% UV protection, comfort, and sporty style.
Bug Spray or Thermacell
The River of Grass region of the Everglades where our Airboat Tours are operated, is very fortunate to have a much milder mosquito presence than other areas within Everglades National Park. Insects are a notorious part of the Everglades, especially in warmer wetter months. Bug Spray is the most popular means of repelling insects, but our go-to is a Portable Thermacell Bug Repeller + Refill. If we opt for a spray repellent, it’s always a Non Toxic All Natural Bug Spray.
Garmin Watch (For Serious Explorers)
Our Captains rely on their Garmin Instinct Solar Watch which adds an extra layer of confidence when exploring the vast Florida Everglades. With built-in GPS, weather-tracking, and unlimited battery life (when exposed to 3 hours of direct sunlight per day,) it helps you navigate remote areas, monitor your activity in the Florida heat, and stay aware of changing conditions — all without relying on cell service.
The Everglades is raw, beautiful, and unpredictable — and that’s exactly what makes it unforgettable. With a few smart Everglades Gear Essentials packed, you’ll be comfortable, protected, and ready to enjoy your adventure.
